I’ll freely admit that two years ago I was a BMW hater through and through. When the only thing you (and your family) know about a brand are the stereotypes associated with it then its easy to be misguided. Though I was a self-professed Mercedes Man I’m now evenly into all three of the German Trio.

In a way Oppo has; seeing all of the people on here who are my age buying cars played a big part in me buying my first car. Someone here also suggested I look at SE-Rs, which I probably would’ve forgotten otherwise.

As a European I never really understood the fascination Americans have with pickuptrucks. However, since joining Oppo I think I got to see the American perspective towards them, and while I still don’t get the 70k luxury trucks, nor bro trucks, I get why trucks make sense in the US.

I now have a heightened appreciation of Geo Metros, Buick Rivieras, Peugeots, Ladas, G-Body GM cars, and all manner of other things. Still don’t like Mitsubishis though.

My opinion on modern Nissans has gone down. For the most part, everyone else has otherwise stayed the same.

I still don’t see myself ever buying a Miata

I had always thought of the Miata as a worthless car. I would still never own one, but I do see how they can appeal to some now.
And I always thought that I was the only weird one who appreciated old Volvos. Now I know I’m not alone on that front.

My opinion of the Miata went from open disdain to indifferent.

I used to be a truck guy. I realized that seeing over traffic wasn’t worth a shitty driving experience.

That reminds me, the other day I heard an ad on the radio for... A BRAND NEW MITSUBISHI DEALER. What kind of drugs was the owner on, or what bet did they lose?

So Oppo helped you lose a bit of money?

That’s the automotive equivalent of a phone book ad salesman.

Nope GM does a fine job of killing my favorite brands off or turning them into shitty FWD econoboxes.

I can’t help it, I still dislike BMWs. The oldest ones were okay, the old ones are garbage, and the newer ones are overpriced Nissan Maximas.
Not counting the oddball ones that are rare, like the Z8 (would give a testicle for one and rub wax on it with a microfiber cloth diaper every night until my wife divorced me), M Coupe (would probably pay reasonable used car price for one, if one in good condition at that price existed and I needed a fun commuter), some variants of the 1-series (if free), or the i8 (if I somehow stumbled over a lot of money, I’d cross shop against a Tesla and probably still end up buying a Tesla, because I really want the D).

There are a lot of cars I appreciate their existence more, not that I’d actually buy one. German cars in particular.

All I have now is an improved self-image after realizing that, even with my biases, I’m much more open-minded than most car people (when it comes to cars).

A lot of us in the US don’t understand 70k trucks and bro trucks.
